Today, the world marks World Food Day 2025 under the theme This theme underscores the power of collective action, partnerships, and locally led solutions in transforming food systems to be more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
In #Baidoa District, where communities face recurrent droughts and floods, food insecurity remains a persistent challenge. During dry seasons, livestock suffer, crops fail, and food prices rise. When heavy rains arrive, floods destroy farms, wash away seeds, and isolate villages from markets. These shocks continue to affect women, children, and displaced families most severely, eroding livelihoods and increasing vulnerability.
Through the Bulsho-Kaab Resilient Project, under the Promoting Climate-Resilient Food Security (CFSP) Project funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with Somali Center for Education and Consultancy (SCEC), practical interventions are being implemented to strengthen community resilience in ten target communities across Baidoa District. The focus is on sustainable, community-led actions that protect and sustain local food systems:
โ Safeguarding livestock and household nutrition by supporting fodder transport, improving fodder storage, and training community trainers to ensure livestock survival and milk availability during dry periods.
โ Enhancing community preparedness by providing essential tools that protect farmland, improve drainage, and reduce the impact of floods.
โ Promoting climate-smart agriculture through the supply of drought-tolerant seeds and farming support to sustain production under changing weather patterns.
โ Strengthening community preparedness through local action planning that helps identify and mitigate food security risks before crises emerge.
โ Empowering communities through inclusive committees and local contribution systems that promote ownership and collective management of resilience initiatives.
โ Increasing awareness and knowledge by delivering early warning information, crop protection training, and post-harvest storage practices to over 1,000 households.
These interventions are improving household food security, protecting livelihoods, and supporting long-term adaptation across #Baidoa District.
