Brief Description
The Somali Center for Education & Consultancy (SCEC)
is a non-profit organization that empowers vulnerable communities in Somalia, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host communities, and ex-combatants. Since its establishment, SCEC has provided services to over 10,000 beneficiaries. The organization’s mission is to promote stability and self-sufficiency through education, vocational training, specialized consultancy, and awareness-raising campaigns on critical issues like climate change and extremism. SCEC has collaborated with a variety of partners, including GIZ Somalia, SoMREP, DRC, the South West State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM SWS), the South West State Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MOPIED SWS), the South West State Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA SWS), the South West State Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs (MOERA SWS), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), the Commission Returnees of IDPs (CRI SWS), and Baidoa Municipality.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change
SCEC actively integrates Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change into its programming.
PCVE (Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism)
As a direct mandate, SCEC tackles the root causes of violent extremism. It reduces the vulnerability of marginalized groups, including ex-combatants, by providing them with education, skills, and economic opportunities.
Job Creation
A core mandate is job creation. SCEC offers vocational skills training and entrepreneurship support to help beneficiaries secure stable livelihoods.
NVC (Non-Violent Communication)
While not a standalone program, SCEC's work in community engagement and psychosocial support inherently promotes non-violent communication.
Counseling Services
Offering guidance and support to individuals and families in need.
Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
SCEC places a strong emphasis on MHPSS. The organization acknowledges the deep psychological trauma experienced by those affected by conflict and displacement.

Strengthening the skills and capabilities of community leaders and professionals.
